Google says the Home app for web browsers is rolling out over the course of this week. My account first got access last night, October 26, after checking several times since the official announcement. The Google Home app can’t be used as a speaker for your PC, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. If you own a Nest speaker, you can easily connect the speaker to your desktop using Bluetooth. The main catch right now seems to be a lack of support for viewing camera history from the browser app. Speaking personally, that’s something I rarely required, but it’s a bummer nonetheless. Using this, you could write your own web service to access and control various functions and features of your Google Home devices. As of October 2022, the Google Home web app has a single purpose – a live view of your Nest cameras. You can access the web app at home.google.com/u/0/home, but the URL only works if the experience has been rolled out to your account.

While it's designed to only work with iOS and Android devices, you can use an Android emulator or Google Chrome to access the app from a desktop computer. The web versions of the Home and Nest apps are optimized to take advantage of your computer's bigger screen and mouse. For example, you can view the live streams of multiple Nest cameras at once, or keep the live stream playing in the background while you work on other things. Matter is the new, universal language for smart home devices. It connects and controls your Google Home and other Matter-enabled devices, so your smart home is faster to set up, and more responsive and reliable than ever.

Google Home for web will be available as a preview as we continue to work on improving it and adding more popular camera features. Some features that are available in the mobile Google Home app or Nest app will not be available in the Google Home for web preview.
